Westlake’s Senate Campaign Adds World-Renowned Economist to Advisory Team
Westlake Campaign Staff
Monday, September 14th, 2009
(Watertown, WI)- Dave Westlake, candidate for U.S. Senate from Watertown, announced today that his campaign team has added a world-renowned economist, Professor Luigi Zingales, the Robert C. McCormack Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business to his advisory team.

"When it comes to economics, Professor Zingales brings incredible credentials and experience that is second-to-none anywhere in the world This is exactly the type of expertise we need to help lead our country back on to solid economic footing." Westlake said in commenting on his campaign's new advisor. "He is the caliber of expert Presidential candidates seek out for counsel--and we've got him here on our campaign. It's exciting...and it's great for Wisconsin! Voters should know that we are assembling the best team to create a healthy economy and bring jobs back to Wisconsin. With Professor Zingales on board, the message to Wisconsin is simple: Dave Westlake has the business experience and the right economic team to get our great country back on his feet. Sen. Feingold has neither. I think that will make for a very clear choice in 2010."

Hailed by numerous publications as a "rising star" among conservative thinkers, Zingales is one of the most cited economists in the world and a faculty member at a school regarded as the global leader in economics. Most notably recognized for the innovative teachings of long-time professor and Nobel laureate Milton Freidman, the University of Chicago has a long tradition of hiring outstanding economic minds; Luigi Zingales is no exception.

In addition to his advisory capacity on Westlake's campaign and holding his position at Chicago Booth, Zingales is currently a faculty research fellow for the National Bureau of Economic Research, a research fellow for the Center for Economic Policy Research, and a fellow of the European Governance Institute. He is an editorialist for Il Sole 24 Ore, the Italian correspondent of the Financial Times. Zingales also serves on the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation, which has been examining the legislative, regulatory, and legal issues affecting how public companies function. He has also recently published his first book, "Saving Capitalism from Capitalists."

"I am both honored and intrigued by this opportunity" Zingales said. "Given [Dave's] age, his business background, and his entrepreneurial spirit, I think he is an ideal candidate to bring change to Washington. I look forward to working with him and his team to make this a successful campaign...and provide a strong future for the American Dream."

"This is going to be an exciting race," Westlake says "and with the team of outstanding volunteers--like Luigi Zingales--who recognize the importance of this campaign and are flocking to join our effort, I'm confident that we're going to lead Wisconsin--and America--to brighter days in the future."
