(Watertown, WI)- Dave Westlake, candidate for U.S. Senate from Watertown, released the following statement regarding the 8th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America on September 11th, 2001:

"Eight years ago today the United States suffered the most horrendous attack on American soil in our nation's history. While the pain of losing nearly 3,000 of our fellow Americans will never leave us, we honor their memories and pay tribute to their heroics by strengthening our determination and emboldening our will to keep America safe. We must always keep one eye looking backward in reverence so that we never forget our loss, and one eye focused on the future with determination so we don't fail to realize this great and proud nation's destiny to be a beacon of hope and a bastion of liberty to the world.

We know the people who committed the atrocities of September 11th, 2001, and we know why they committed them. They did so because they hate us for our individual liberties, they fear us for our collective freedoms, and they loathe us for our view that all Americans are created equal. Such attitudes toward our country will not stop us--nor will they even slow us down--in our pursuit of the God-given right for the human spirit to be free. Yes, eight years later we still mourn those we lost--as we will 18 and 80 years later--but we also recommit ourselves to declaring our independence from fear, tyranny, and oppression...and in the defense of each of these we continue to 'pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.'
